Finding talented and dedicated employees in our labour force is no small task these days! Depending on the situation, and in consideration of the costs associated with hiring and training someone, firing an employee should be the last resort. All companies should have a progressive disciplinary policy in place. The intent of any such policy is not to fire an employee but to constructively assist them improve. Only in instances of concerted and documented coaching, and when the employee’s performance does not improve or the improvement is not sustained, should an employer consider firing an employee.
